Muğla Sıtkı Koçman University Department of Translation and Interpreting was established in 2000 and in 2002 admitted graduate students to the Master's Degree program. In the 2019-2020 the department accepted 40 students to Bachelor's Degree program for the first time.There are 4 faculty members in our department. With the 2019 - 2020 Academic Year, our Translation and Interpretation (English) Undergraduate Program has started its educational activities with 40 students.
The aim of the Translation and Interpreting in English program is to train translators and interpreters who are fluent in English as well as a second foreign language. The aim of the degree program in Translation and Interpretating is to introduce language knowledge and terminology in various fields such as law, economics, literature, social and natural sciences, political knowledge, international relations, media and communication with modern educational techniques, scientific methods and approaches. The aim of the course is to train candidates who are experts in cultural transfer, interpreters and translators and academicians who will work in the field of translation studies.Our program is designed to train translators and interpreters who are equipped to respond to the needs and demands of the market by bridging the theoretical area of practice by developing the basic components of translation competence.
Graduates can be employed as translators, executive assistants, language experts in translation companies in the private sector, advertising and marketing, visual and print media, tourism and publishing enterprises, import export companies and various international and multinational organizations.They are employed as educators, translators, researchers, communication and foreign relations specialists in educational institutions. In the state institutions, the graduates are employed as translators, researchers, communication and foreign relations experts in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of European Union, other ministries, the Constitutional Court, TRT, Directorate General of Press and Information, Anadolu Agency. In state and private universities, they are employed as researchers, translators, foreign relations specialists and language lecturers.
